What is e-cycling?
E-cycling refers to the environmentally responsible recycling of electronic waste. E-cycling offers a socially responsible alternative for individuals and businesses to handle the disposal of their end of life electronics.

The electronics recycling processes at The FTK Group, Inc. are conducted in a manner that adheres to the requirements set forth in the ISO:14001:2004 and R2 Certification. FTK Group, Inc. always tests and attempts to repair items that can still be utilized by other organizations around the world. All materials that cannot be repaired or dismantled by hand are mechanically processed through the use of an electronics shredding system. The shredder byproduct is then separated into basic commodities that can then be 100% recycled or repurposed. It is the intent that nothing from FTK Group process will ever enter into the nation’s waste stream.

Why is e-Cycling Important?
When disposed of in landfills or incinerators, the materials contained in electronics are capable of negatively impacting the environment and the health of everyday people.

Electronic devices contain materials such as:

  • Chromium
  • Cadmium
  • Mercury
  • Lithium
  • Bromine
  • Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
  • Lead

CRT computer monitors and televisions can contain:

  • Between four to eight pounds of lead
  • Phosphorous
  • Barium
  • Mercury

Batteries are made out of:

  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Nickel
  • Cadmium
  • NiCad (nickel cadmium)
  • Silver oxide
  • Mercury oxide
  • Zinc carbon

When these electronics are improperly disposed of in landfills and incinerators, the harmful materials that they hold can easily contaminate the environment, specifically water supplies and the air, negatively impacting human health.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), consumer electronics are responsible for about 40% of all lead found in landfills.

Benefits of e-cycling

  • Protects organizations from security breaches and costly noncompliance/cleanup fines
  • Establishes an environmentally responsible image for workplaces and its clients reduces the amount of toxic materials entering into the nation’s waste stream
  • Saves landfill space and conserves important natural resources
  • Generates over 112 million pounds of repurposed materials including steel, glass, plastic and precious metals
